About The Institute
The National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF) has established the Institute for Equity in Health Policy and Practice in response to the forward-looking consensus that equity must become integral to the American health services research, delivery and financing system. The NMQF Institute for Equity in Health Policy and Practice (NMQF Institute for Equity) is structured as a partnership that will enable key stakeholders in the public and private sectors to design a policy and regulatory infrastructure that is imbued with the principles of equity and the reduction of patient risk.
The NMQF Institute for Equity will enable collaborations that harness the political and economic will that is amassing in response to the realization that structural and systemic inequity is the proximate cause of amenable and avoidable morbidity and premature mortality. The legacy of this structural inequity is a health system that is unable to meet the needs of the diverse American population. The evidence of this inability is found in scientific research and quality metrics that ignore patient variability, in health care policies that promote disparities, and in poor health outcomes and medical errors for an increasing number Americans.
The NMQF Institute for Equity in Health Policy and Practice will facilitate information exchange, educational efforts and consensus building regarding policy options that are supportive of a 21st century re-envisioning of a health system that reduces patient risk and sustains the health and well-being of families and communities. Creation of the Institute will facilitate targeted responses to specific federal and state policy and regulatory issues that compromise efforts to advance equity and reduce patient risk. The products of the NMQF Institute for Equity will include Issue Briefs, Thought Leaders in Equity and Policy Roundtables, and Issue Specific Briefings and Webinars.
