Sen. Tim Kaine to Receive Dr. Charles R. Drew Award from National Minority Quality Forum

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 21, 2022)—The National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF) announced today that it will honor Sen. Tim Kaine with its highly acclaimed Charles R. Drew Award in a ceremony at The Watergate Hotel on Monday, April 25.

The Award recognizes an individual or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the promotion of health and wellness in emerging populations.

“We are honored to present the Charles R. Drew Award to Sen. Kaine,” said NMQF’s President and CEO Dr. Gary A. Puckrein. He continued, “Throughout his career as a public servant, he has addressed social justice and health equity directly, being a necessary voice for the most vulnerable.”

The Charles R. Drew Award is given in recognition of his decades of dedication, hard work, and advocacy for our nation’s most vulnerable. More specifically, we are honoring the Senator for his work in getting the Dr. Lorna Breen Healthcare Provider Protection Act passed.  This comprehensive legislation aims to reduce and prevent suicide, burnout, and mental and behavioral health conditions among health care professionals.

“I am so honored to receive this award,” Sen. Kaine said. “I am committed to keep working to support the mental health of our healers and address health disparities in access to care.”

Past Award honorees include Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Nobel Prize Laureate in Medicine, Dr. Louis J. Ignarro. Nominations are received from advisors and stakeholders and then chosen by NMQF leadership.

The Award ceremony is a part of the NMQF 20th Summit on Health Disparities and Health Braintrust. Registration closes on Friday, April 22. Sign up now.
